Behind the Beautiful Oriel in Wing B was the part of the castle known as the Electoral Chambers. The first floor contained the private quarters of the Elector himself, while the second floor was occupied by his wife. The two apartments were connected by a narrow spiral staircase so that the couple could visit each other.

The desire for direct access to the Castle Chapel from the Electoral Chambers testifies to the electoral couple’s deep personal affinity with the Protestant doctrine espoused by Martin Luther.
